Family Meals Matter: breakfast in a nutshell
Oct. 22 is National Nut Day! Part of the meat and beans group, nuts are nutrient-rich powerhouses. While many people shy away from nuts for their seemingly high calorie and fat content, nuts are high in monounsaturated or polyunsaturated fat, low in saturated fat and have no cholesterol, making them a healthy choice as part of an overall balanced diet. Did we mention that they're also delicious?
In honor of National Nut Day, we've selected recipes that capture breakfast in a nutshell for better days (use "#BetterDays" to start or find a conversation on Twitter). If someone in your household has an allergy to particular nuts, simply substitute for a well-tolerated nut or omit them from the recipe.
Start with a featured family meal of Nutty Breakfast Parfaits, Mini Frittatas and Hazelnut Cafe-au-Lait. Other breakfast recipes we're nuts about this week include Yogurt Waffles, Gone Nuts Roll-Ups, Banana Walnut Pancakes with Fresh Fruit Medley and Apple Sandwiches with Granola and Peanut Butter.
