Calling experienced bakers: Cake baking pan size conversion?

Question: I need to make a 1/2 sheet cake and I have a recipe that makes three 9" round cake (3 layers), is that enough batter for the 1/2 sheet or do I need to add 1/4, 1/2, or double the recipe? Thanks.


Answer: 1 9 inch round cake uses 6 cups of batter..........

Half sheet pan Standard 18x13x1 or 16x12x2 or x3 or 18x12x2 - approx. 12 cups - serves 30 to 48

One cake mix yields 4 to 6 cups of batter.


Double it! I am not 100% sure. but I am an experienced cooker and I always say Better too much than too little. If you put too little the cake will become soggy and icky. If you put more it will make it softer and plumper.
