Coolest Yoda Cake 8

This is a Yoda cake I was asked to make for a Star Wars themed birthday party. I also made a Darth Vader cake (which was easier as I was able to find a cake pan for him online).

For Yoda, I used a Wilton Animal Crackers cake pan (originally shaped like a panda head with rounded ears) and shaved about a quarter of an inch off of the top of the ears to make them slightly lower. I made the extended part of Yoda's ears separately on wax paper by layering "stars" (Wilton tip #18) and freezing the ears by laying them flat in the freezer every two layers until they were approximately the same height as the reduced cake ears.

For the face, I piped an outline of the eyes and other features in a slightly darker green and then filled everything in using the lighter green and black and white for the eyes. I ended up going back over the lighter green with the darker green piping again to re-do the features because they didn't show up very well otherwise.

This Yoda birthday cake is the first cake I have ever made! I made this for my nephew's 7th birthday party.

The body is made out of white cake. I baked the cake in a sheet pan. Let it cool, and then cut out the shape of Yoda. I had to use some of the scraps of cake to bulk up the area where his arms were. I suppose lots of practice will correct that.

I made Yoda's cane by making a mold out of tin foil then filling it with melted milk chocolate, and setting it in the fridge to harden. I used MM fondant for the details in the face and eyes. My "beginner's" mistake was I did not account for a large enough cake pan to put it in for the long ride to my nephew's house. Result... I had to squish the ears and head to fit him in the pan. It did a some damage and made his neck look saggy,...
