It was game night, Sept. 29.
"This place is as bad as a WallyMart," says Nicci looking around at the black and orange decorations placed about the kitchen. "Where's the Christmas ornament section?"
It's true; Halloween gets an early start in my place. The cats, witches, pumpkins, ghouls and what have you are out by Oct. 1. It's been a favorite of my family since my daughters were little. Now we indoctrinate the grandchildren.
Heck my family has an annual "Trick or Treat Practice," launched when my first grandchild was nearly 2. We see it as an opportunity for a family party and a chance to wear that carefully crafted costume — or to use a second one. We play games, eat, and then the kids walk the block, stopping at my door for practice about a half dozen times. Always good to refine one's polite request and thrust of the bag, hmm?
Obviously a woman with my penchant for the season is going to write a Halloween column — and early. But there's reason. First, this is a bi-weekly, so there are only a few chances. Second, it's time to get crackin' on the costume and, third, if you're like my family, you are already prepping for the big day.
