Democrats enthused, relieved by Obama's performance

— A palpable sense of relief seemed to fill the San Diego County Democrats’ Unity Campaign office, where supporters heaped praise on President Barack Obama for the aggressive stance he took during Tuesday night’s presidential debate.

Clearly energized by their candidate’s willingness to challenge Republican rival Mitt Romney on jobs, taxes, energy and women’s issues, local Democrats said they were hoping the debate would solidify the Democratic base and possibly convert undecided voters into Obama supporters.

“It’s a drastic improvement,” said Greg Bolian, a retired corporate trainer from North Park. “Tonight, he was clear and concise. The last time around, Romney was saying things completely different from what he had been saying during the campaign, and Obama didn’t call him on it. Tonight he did.

“I registered voters after the last debate, and supporters were disappointed. That won’t be the case this time.
