Rockford Register Star's Empty Stocking Club set to return
ROCKFORD — The Rockford Register Star’s 2012 Empty Stocking campaign kicks off Sunday, and this year it’s aiming to help more families in need.
The goal is to raise $60,000. Donation envelopes can be found in Sunday’s newspaper.
The Register Star has sponsored the campaign for more than 30 years to make sure every child in need in Boone and Winnebago counties has at least one present to open during the holidays. Children also receive a pair of gloves or mittens.
“The community clearly rallies around this great cause year after year,” said Travis Engebretson, Register Star director of consumer marketing. “Each year, we find that the need outweighs our ability to serve all the families seeking toys.
This year, we would like to increase the reach of the Empty Stocking Club. To that end, we have increased our fundraising goal from $50,000 to $60,000.”
The Empty Stocking is always a busy and festive event. Last year’s effort brought in more than $50,000, with most of the donations from readers. Donations may be sent to: Empty Stocking Club, c/o Associated Bank, Dept. 5448, P.O.
