Lofty Pursuits Press Release
It's hard to believe but 20 years ago Gregory Cohen opened Lofty Pursuits as a Kite/skill toy store on Tharpe Street here in tallahassee. Since then lots has changed, but Lofty Pursuits is still here in Market Square far from its original location on Tharpe Street and Monroe. It has changed over the years to grow beyond just toys and incude a Soda Fountain and Victorian Hard Candy Making.
A lot of what Lofty Pursuits has become is a way to enjoy what has been forgotten through everything from hand made hard candy, to classic, delicious but obscure soda fountain treats, to our new but old 1920's payphone.
The payphone is a good example of what we do to touch the past with the modern. We installed a 1920's Grey Electric Automatic payphone, but it's been changed. Instead of dialing out it dials to a collection of recordings triggered by various numbers that you can try to puzzle out, but this is the fun, not the point. The point is that people who have never used a rotary phone, can now experience it in a operational manner. The real lesson to us, is that not only do our youth not understand a rotary dial, but they don't know what a dial tone is.
