Bar Taco's Westport location in a class by itself
Starting in Port Chester, N.Y., then moving to Stamford, and now to Westport, Bartaco is becoming a mini-chain. So, why the emphasis today on the new Westport location? After all, the menu is almost identical to the previously (and positively) reviewed Stamford location.
It's the buzz. And the huge crowds. So, though Stamford is plenty crowded and happily ensconced, the Westport Bartaco is in a class by itself.
Start with the location. The west bank of the Saugatuck River, which used to be a bit of a hard sell for local shops and eateries, has suddenly become the new hot ticket for dining.
Some attractive new construction and waterside patios have great appeal all year 'round, but the wide brick walk here somehow seems like just the right place to savor a Baja fish taco while watching a few boaters at sunset.
Even from indoors, the water is ever present and not only from the expansive window views, but the beachy feel that somehow seems a whole lot more authentic here than in downtown Stamford. White-washed walls, worn wood tables, inverted wicker baskets for chandeliers, unglazed tiles, and worn-looking cement floors with shots of hot sunshine colors everywhere make this a beach experience even when the snow falls.
