• Background: Bacheller is picking up where his mentor and predecessor Jiho Kim left off. Bacheller, Kim’s assistant for three years, has been head of pastry for six months. Previous work includes Boston’s- Ritz-Carlton, staging- in Europe, as well as chef Eric Ripert’s Le Bernardin in New York.
• Inspiration: Bacheller’s mom ran a cake baking company while he was growing up in West Newbury. “My mom was very talented. I got the spark then. That had a pretty big influence on me,” he said.
• What to taste: It’s a tie, between Ants on a Log and a Candy Cap Mushroom Parfait.
“My take is a bit nostalgic, something they know but present it in a way they never would have thought of having this,” he said.
Ants on a Log features frozen praline parfait with celery, moscato raisins and white rum ice cream. The eye-catching Candy Cap Mushroom Parfait features maple roasted walnuts and cardamom mascarpone ice cream.
Events That Sparkle: My Wedding
When I graduated from college, I was unsure of what I wanted to do next. I moved from New Hampshire to Boston, with no real plan in mind. I had an apartment with my friends and a waitressing job that would hold me over until I found a "real job". After working in real estate, I decided to apply to graduate school. I was at a complete crossroad. I didn't know if I should go for a degree in counseling or interior design. I chose counseling. The reason why I am even telling this story is I never questioned my choice until I started planning my wedding. I forgot just how much I loved to use my creative side . I designed and planned much of my wedding by myself and it just came so naturally to me. I was also lucky to have a great family, great friends and a supportive finance (who actually stayed up one night until 4 am tying ribbons on our programs) who all helped me. I wanted to do something dramatic for my seating chart....
